A Dance of Light Gallery & Studio
Chama is a railroad town built in 1880 when the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad came through. Today, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, one of two remaining vestiges of that former narrow gauge railroad, winds its’ way from Chama up over 10,015 foot Cumbres Pass to Antonito, Colorado. Chama, elevation 7,860 feet, is a charming little village of about 1200 people that sees thousands of tourists between Memorial Day weekend and the middle of October. The train ride is a truly awesome experience, especially during the fall colors! Chama is two hours north of Santa Fe on State Highway 84, two hours east of Farmington on State Highway 64, less than two hours northwest of Taos on State Highway 64 and one hour southeast of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, on State highways 84/64 (please see map).
